Dont ya just love................

.............when you read a book and it leads you to learn about something that fascinates you?

Well, that is exactly what I just did.

I read "Water Like a Stone" by Deborah Crombie.and I learned about a whole UK culture of living/vacationing on 'longboats' or 'narrowboats' on the canals in England. What fascinating bit of culture to learn about.

Of course it greatly enhanced the storyline, well, it actually was the backbone of the plotline. And how I love this mystery series by Crombie. She actually lives in the US, but writes this series about two police officers in London. As the series goes on, their relationship develops. It is one of those series which tells the story line, while entwining the lives of the investigators in it. By the way, they are one male and one female. A definite must to read. Now I will add one quick note. Some of her novels, or some parts of her novels, I should say, can feel a little dark. They are NOT cozy mysteries. Not exactly procedural, either. Either way, great reads!

Some of My Favorite Recently read books

  • The Cedar Cove series by Debbie Macomber. This series has 6 books in it currently. They explore the lives and times of the residents of Cedar Cove, Washington. The characters in this series are fun because they are so varied. I will admit, I would like to know about some of them. They are old and young, rich and poor, happy and struggling. They do all connect together and they all appear in each book, along with new characters all the time. The books are quick reads. I was very sad when they were done. I cant wait for the next installment of this series to come out in Sept. 2007. Visit Debbies Cedar Cove website for more and pic :http://www.debbiemacomber.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=page&pageID=6
